Questions about Cosmetic Dentistry
Will my smile look natural after cosmetic dentistry? Most of the work I have seen is so obvious.
Because training, skill, and the quality of materials vary so much among dentists who call themselves cosmetic dentists, you do see some really bad cosmetic results out there. And that may be all you see because beautiful results are not noticeable. They look natural.
For beautiful, natural-looking results you must work with a highly trained dentist who has an eye for beauty and uses the best materials. This takes extensive training, not just a weekend seminar.
Cosmetic dentist, Dr. John G. Sarris trained at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), the world’s premiere post-graduate dental education facility.
Is cosmetic dentistry really good for my teeth or does it just cover up problems?
Cosmetic dentistry treats your underlying dental problems as well as enhancing the beauty of your smile. Because of the materials used in cosmetic dentistry, the solutions are often healthier and longer-lasting than those used in traditional dentistry.
When your cosmetic dentist is also a neuromuscular dentist, such as Dr. Sarris, you also get the benefit of solutions that provide the ultimate in comfort and function. Because they fit properly and allow your teeth to work together as they should, they can prevent long term-damage to your teeth and jaw that poorly designed and poorly placed restorations can cause.
Do I need to see different dentists for my cosmetic work and general dentistry?
No. Your cosmetic dentist will take care of your general dentistry needs. In fact, it is best to see your cosmetic dentist for all of your dental needs for many reasons. For instance, you will not undergo conflicting procedures, and he will have full knowledge of your dental history.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers have become one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry solutions because they can solve so many problems while giving you a beautiful, natural-looking smile. They only require two office visits and minimal work on your teeth, making them a convenient and fast solution that can take the place of several, more extensive options.
The Beauty of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers can save you time and money by correcting the appearance of multiple cosmetic dental problems with one solution. For instance, if your teeth are discolored or even deeply stained, slightly crooked, and you have a chipped tooth or a small gap between two teeth, porcelain veneers can correct all of that. Alternative solutions to achieve the same look would include teeth whitening, Invisalign, and dental bonding.
There are sometimes reasons why a patient might prefer the individual procedures and more extensive work, but many patients want to have a beautiful smile quickly and without multiple visits to the dentist. If you are one of those patients, porcelain veneers may be the best choice for you.
The veneers themselves are very thin. A tiny amount of your tooth enamel is removed to accommodate them, so the sit flush with the surrounding teeth and do not feel bulky or affect the way you chew and speak. They are made of dental porcelain which has the closest look and feel to natural tooth enamel of all dental materials available. They will be perfectly matched to the color of the surrounding teeth and have the same translucent quality, so they blend seamlessly.
If you live in Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Point, or the surrounding areas of Florida and are considering porcelain veneers, please contact John G. Sarris, D.M.D., P.A. at Family Cosmetic & Reconstructive Dentistry to schedule your complimentary cosmetic dentistry consultation today.

Cosmetic Dentistry
You know that cosmetic dentistry can give you the beautiful smile you have always wanted, but you may not realize that it also addresses your underlying dental health. If you are waiting to see a cosmetic dentist until after you have fixed problems such as decaying or missing teeth, you could be setting yourself up for a lot of extra dental work and possibly damage to your teeth.
Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry
A beautiful smile can boost your self confidence, help you look younger and healthier, and have you smiling more often. Cosmetic dentistry accomplishes this while improving your dental health. If you have a cavity, you do not need to see a traditional dentist and get a metal-colored filling first, then go to a cosmetic dentist to get it replaced. You can go straight to your cosmetic dentist and get a beautiful and healthy tooth-colored filling the first time.
Of course, cosmetic dentistry can address cosmetic dental problems such as:
- Discoloration
- Crookedness
- Twisted, misshapen, or unevenly sized teeth
- Gaps
- Chips, cracks, and broken teeth
- Unattractive gum line
Training Matters
Just as anyone who slaps some paint on a canvas may call himself and artist, any dentist can call himself a cosmetic dentist and offer cosmetic dentistry procedures. For beautiful, healthy, and long-lasting results, your cosmetic dentist must have an eye for beauty, use the best tools and materials, and have extensive training and experience in the best techniques—like Dr. Sarris does.
If you are considering cosmetic dentistry in the Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Point, Florida area, please contact Florida cosmetic dentist, John G. Sarris, D.M.D., P.A. Family Cosmetic & Reconstructive Dentistry today to schedule your complimentary consultation.

Tooth Colored Fillings
Tooth colored fillings are more than just beautiful. They can strengthen and preserve your teeth when metal fillings can actually do damage. The best thing is to start out with tooth colored fillings, but if you already have metal fillings Dr. Sarris can replace them for you. When you have metal fillings removed and replaced he will check for and treat any damage that your metal fillings may have caused.
Composite or Porcelain
Your tooth colored fillings can be created from the same composite resin we use for dental bonding, or you can choose porcelain inlays or onlays. The choice depends on your personal preference and the size of the area of damage or decay. Composite resin and porcelain inlays are appropriate for filling smaller holes. Porcelain onlays are used for large areas of decay where there is still enough healthy tooth material and a strong enough tooth that a crown is not required.
Tooth Colored Filling Procedure
The procedures for composite resin and porcelain fillings are different. Composite resin only requires one visit. Porcelain requires two. Both begin with preparing your tooth by removing the decayed and diseased tooth material.
Composite resin is a paste that is placed in your tooth, sculpted into shape, hardened, and then polished for a shiny, seamless fit. The procedure for a tooth colored, composite resin filling is very similar to the procedure for a metal filling, but we can preserve more of your natural tooth.
Porcelain inlays and onlays are created in a lab. Precise measurements are made after your tooth is prepared, so you inlay or onlay will fit perfectly. Your inlay or onlay is bonded in place during your return visit.
If you live in the Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, and Lighthouse Point, Florida area, and believe that you may need a filling, please contact John G. Sarris, D.M.D., P.A. Family Cosmetic & Reconstructive Dentistry to schedule your consultation today.
